Chicana on the Edge Turns 18

I like telling people that back in 2004 the word was that blogs were over. Less than ten years after “the Internet” had become a household word, blogs were seen as this trend that had run their course and now people had moved on. It made sense. In 2004 we had this cool thing called MySpace and an ever newer, cooler thing called Facebook. Who wanted to read self-absorbed drivel about some blogger’s personal life?

Well, I’m grateful for the people have been interested in my self-absorbed drivel for almost two decades now. I didn’t want children, but on June 17, 2022 my blog turns 18!

Chicana on the Edge stands as the only evidence of my ability to commit. I need it the way I used to need the journals I kept when I was growing up. At the age of 55, apparently I’m still growing up. It turns out, growing up never really stops, even if you DO have children and do other grownup things like own property, have a successful career and make lots of money (I’ve never done any of those things either).

Here’s to the “death of blogs” back in 2004. It’s a good thing I went ahead and started my own anyway.

17 June 2022

Me thinking about how blogs were supposed to be finished back in 2004.
