My Favorite Chewing Gum

In my new effort to widen my airway and snore less, I’m chewing gum regularly for the first time since I was a kid. But American chewing gum is made with either natural or artificial sweeteners and I don’t want a sugar rush. American gum is also very soft, which doesn’t give the jaw much of a workout.

I said I’d blog when I found a gum I liked, so here it is: a chewing gum that comes from Turkey. It’s called Falim and it has no sugar or artificial sweeteners. It’s flavored with mastic, which comes from tree resin. When I first put it in my mouth, it reminded me of the way wood smells, or maybe an exotic kind of spice that comes from bark. I can’t say it tastes good, but it’s not strong. In fact, after chewing it every day for about a week, I couldn’t taste it anymore at all.

It’s a stiff little piece of gum that takes a while to soften, but it does soften up. Fortunately, for my purposes, it doesn’t get as soft as American gum.

So that’s my recommendation. You can get this gum, or another kind of mastic gum, in a few places. I ordered mine on eBay.

The quality I love most about the internet is its infinite resource. Where else am I to learn about chewing gum. Certainly not from any of my grade school teachers. They were opposed. I did my fair share of snoring in classrooms. If only chewing gum was an option… Thank you Regina for continuing my education in an awakening manner. Be well.
