Middle-Age Starts Around 36

At the age of 44, I know I am middle-aged. I don’t have a problem with this. It’s only logical: middle-aged means you’re roughly halfway through your life. In fact the next time someone tries to argue that being in our 40s — or even late 30s — is not middle-aged, I will say, “How long are you planning to live? Unless it’s at least 110 years, you’re middle-aged.”

That's a good question, Mick. I'd say once you're past the halfway decade, you're old. I think I might call myself old when I hit 60. If it's possible to live to 100, I'd say my first 40 years were youth, the next 20 are middle age and the last 40 years will be old age. Old age can last a long time.

But if middle age starts when you are half way through your life when do you become old age ?

  3. Regina Rodriguez-Martin says:

Yes, and "middle-age" is just an estimate.

age is just a number! 🙂
